Me and my buddy lupus

I’ve recently revealed to the world, well all of the people that I know, that I have lupus. That was a big step for me, but I felt it was time to offer some insight into why I am not always my usual super-hyper, super-happy self. I want to thank all of you that have been supportive, even those of you that cursed me out for not telling you in the first place. It means a lot that you care enough to offer your explicit words of concern and wisdom.

Lupus is a very unpredictable and often very painful disease. I’ll spare you all of the sorrowful details about the complications, but it’s difficult to diagnose because the ridicoulous consortium of symptoms are so common, they can be related to anything. I was diagnosed in 2003 and I didin’t fully accept it unitl this year when I physically could not get out of bed. For years I suffered with horrible migraine headaches, anemia, joint pains, etc. The entire time I thought it was all related to working at the post office. Although the stressful environnment didn’t help, I had no idea that those symptoms were indicators to something more serious. However, I was happy to finally prove that I really wasn’t CRAZY!! (The jury is still out on that though.) Can you imagine going to your doctor at 25 years old, saying, “Uhhhmm, Doc…ALL of my joints hurt!” You’d think now at 35, my dancing on top of the table days would have been over long ago, but it was the lupus that got me off the table, not my age. Shoot, I haven’t danced on a table since February. :-)

I can laugh and joke about it, but I hate it. I’m dealing with it, but I hate it. However, when I am having my feel good moments, you better know that I’m living life to the fullest!
